1. Choose the right lake

These databases are general and multidisciplinary. They contain mostly news and magazine sources written for general audiences. If you're not having much luck in one, try another!

2. Adjust your bucket as needed

Search terms

  • Try "design" or "analysis" + the type of space you are writing about
  • Use two- or three-word phrases, rather than questions with grammar words
    • living space design
    • social space design
    • community space design
    • library space design  -->this is what we practiced with in class
  • If you're not getting results that seem relevant, try broader (less specific) terms
  • Watch for other useful terms in your search results

 

Database features

  • Look for ways to filter or narrow your results
    •  Publication date and resource type
  • Watch for subject tags - these are often good search term inspiration
