Libby is the app you'll use for borrowing ebooks and audiobooks through our Overdrive subscription. We have fiction and nonfiction as ebooks and audiobooks to use for research or read for pleasure. Libby can be downloaded for free through your preferred app store.
You may be familiar with Libby through your public library system. If you've already got Libby set up with the James River Valley Library System or another public library, it's easy to add UJ's collection to your app. Open the app, select the hamburger menu in the bottom middle and choose "Add Library" below your existing linked libraries. You'll start from Step 3, then, with the instructions below.
Use the arrows on either side of the screenshots below to advance through the instructions, or read the plain-text instructions without screenshots at the bottom of the page.
Have questions? Click the "Ask a Librarian" image to get in touch.
When you open Libby for the first time on a new device, you'll have to connect it to a library (or more than one) in order to browse and check out books and audiobooks. Select "Yes" to start the process.
There are a few ways to get started. Here we'll walk through the second option, searching for a library by name or location. (If you've used Libby before on a different device, choose the first option.)
Search for "University of Jamestown" or enter our zip code, 58405. When you locate our campus subscription, the University of Jamestown will appear under the "Your Libraries" heading below the search bar.
Now you'll add your library "card." This just means you'll sign in with your UJ credentials so you can access our ebooks and audiobooks within Libby and check them out.
As a UJ student, staff member, or faculty member, choose the first option on this screen: "University of Jamestown Students, Faculty and Staff." If you're a community member with a UJ library card, choose the second option.
To sign in with your UJ credentials, hit "Next." This will take you to our familiar blue and white sign-on page where you'll enter your UJ email address and the password you use for your email and MyUJ.
Your account is linked and we're almost done! Rename this library card if you'd like (so it's not just called "Linked Card"), and then hit "Next."
Connect your Kindle account if you prefer to read within Kindle. (Most books are available in Kindle, but some aren't.) Follow the on-screen prompts to log into your Kindle account and link it with Libby. After you complete or skip this step, you're all set and ready to browse!
