Digital Learning Objects

This page lists digital learning objects created by UJ librarians that you can share with students or embed in Canvas course sites. If you would like a library tutorial that you don't see here, reach out to the Reference and Instruction Librarian to talk about creating one!

Digital learning objects or DLOs are online educational resources in any format. They are typically self-paced and shareable across multiple platforms. The library creates videos, guides, interactive tutorials, and Canvas modules.

There are a few ways to embed YouTube videos into Canvas course pages: by using the YouTube LTI to search for the video you want or by copying and pasting in the embed code directly.

Option 1: YouTube LTI

  • When editing a page in Canvas, click on the icon above your text editor that looks like the plug end of an electrical cord.
  • Click on "View All" and scroll down until you find YouTube. Select YouTube.
  • On the next screen, search for "Raugust Library" or the name of the video tutorial you want to include. When you've located the video you want, click the blue "Embed" button.
  • The video should now appear in your text editor, which you can save and close.

Option 2: Paste in the Embed Code

  • If you're in YouTube already and have located the video you want to share with your students, click on the "Share" button below the video player.
  • Choose the "Embed" option and copy the code that is generated.
  • In Canvas, open the page editor for where you would like to place the video. Open the "Insert" menu above the text box and select "Embed." Paste in your code and hit "Submit."
  • The video should now appear in your text editor, which you can save and close.

UJ Libraries: Research Resources LTI

All Canvas courses how have a Library Resources section that is automatically populated with a relevant research guide or set of resources such as guides or databases. However, if you would like more control over the library resources that you embed within your course, you can disable that Library Resources section and add in specific resources using the UJ Libraries: Research Resources LTI.

We are happy to help walk you through this process! Reach out to the Reference and Instruction Librarian for assistance or to discuss your options.

Canvas Courses & Modules

UJ librarians have created several Canvas courses and are happy to collaborate on individual modules that can be copied into your courses.

APA Tutorials

Interactive tutorials on APA citations (references and in-text citations) created using survey software. Students watch and read through examples/instructions then answer quiz-style questions. An answer key is linked after submission. Students can have their submissions emailed to themselves to forward to instructors for proof of completion.

General Library & Research Help Guides

Guides are webpages, essentially, that can be linked to or embedded in Canvas. The guides below cover general topics related to research skills and using the library. Course- and subject-specific guides are also available (but are too numerous to list here).
